Thomas Hewitt, born in August of 1939, in a slaughterhouse, his mother visibly with weight problems, not up to his birth and has a cardiac arrest. The owner of the slaughterhouse and found that it is a child, disfigured, almost horrible to behold, leaves him in a dumpster. Later, Thomas will be saved his fate, Luda Mae Hewitt by a poor girl who, in order to dig nell'immondezzaio, discovers the child and showing affection with it, the door to his house and decided to adopt it. Following what appears to be a possible happy childhood for Tommy, is actually a crescendo of pain. Wanted by fate, disfigured Tommy fails to accept, not having even good use of the word (all due to his deformity, which includes all the lower part of the face), begin to feed a kind of revulsion against it, even traumatized since birth and raised by his uncle Charlie, who after the experience in the Korean War has practically become a fool, Thomas will much of his adolescence in a slaughterhouse, a school is not doing well, always derided by his companions, perhaps even abused and beaten, the boy feeds a large repugnant to society that has always rejected. Enthralled by the smell of the meat from birth, Tommy vent his anger by harming themselves multiple times, until it began the first experiments in the faces of leather, with the carcasses of dead animals. He left school, and devotes himself full time to the slaughterhouse, the only place where you feel at home. Years pass, and in 1969 the abattoir closed for health problems, Thomas does not like and suddenly seized by a murderous rampage with a hammer kills the owner of the slaughterhouse (the same as in the past left him), after calming down, and feeling an unexpected sense of pleasure in breaking a life, Thomas sees an old woman on a table saw, perhaps for protection, or perhaps simply attraction, get it and escape from slaughterhouse. Later, the sheriff of the city reaches of the house to warn Hewitt inconvenience, Charlie is headed by the sheriff to look for Tommy. On a deserted street, they see her figure, and while the sheriff is near the stop, Charlie kills him to protect his nephew. The slaughterhouse was closed, and the work is no longer at home, Charlie convinces Thomas to help with preparations for the next evening, affecting the body of subsequently served as sheriff. This will result in the first act of cannibalism of the Hewitt family. Isolated from the world, and moreover continually rejected only because they belonged to a lower social class, Charlie convinces the other members of the family that it's time to hit the company attacking the young hippie who pass through the streets to feed their meat.
